Over at the Washington Post, a supremely out of touch article by conservative columnist George F. Will makes the infuriating claim that victims of sexual assault enjoy “a coveted status that confers privileges.” His logic suggests that because of a supposed liberal plot to bestow some sort of benefit on rape survivors “victims proliferate.”
Of all the tone-deaf rape-denying arguments we’ve heard, this one might take the cake.
My senior year at Bucknell was by far the most challenging- I was writing an honors thesis, working multiple jobs (while looking for a job!), and taking a full courseload all while maintaining my blog AND (after years of recovery from knee surgeries) becoming a runner for the first time in my life. It was hectic, it was busy, but I kept it all together with the help of a lot of what’s in this guide. I made fitness a priority, but also used that time efficiently. My runs might have been study breaks between thesis work, relaxing time at the end of a day of classes, or the jump start to a busy day early in the morning. By making fitness just as important as everything else in my life, but also by recognizing the limitations of the time I had to give to it, I was able to stay fit without stressing out. I really hope this guide is able to help you as you look forward to this fall semester to make fitness a fun, social, time-effective part of your daily life!
Oh my gosh this is amazing, I love watching her smile grow!
Horrifying to imagine, isn’t it? Yet ‘I love cheese’ apparently excuses such practices.
WOW LETS BLOW THIS WAY OUT OF PROPORTION SHALL WE?
This is a pretty powerful image… does this make you angry? Uncomfortable?
Good. It should.
Sadly, sometimes it takes putting the torture we put animals through into human terms to make people understand how sickening the milk industry is. There’s no difference between this photo and one of a dairy cow. Life is life, motherhood is motherhood, and suffering is suffering, and damn right it should make everyone who sees this angry and uncomfortable.
If this picture angers you or saddens you, but you don’t examine why beyond “oh god that’s awful this is so exaggerated how dare you suggest you do that to humans animals just aren’t like that”, you need to realize that that mindset is the reason for the injustice here. If this picture angers you and you still think its okay to drink milk and eat cheese, you need to realize that your hypocrisy is not victimless. Your hypocrisy kills.
Cows feel. It’s not a hard concept and it is pretty perverted to do this to any animal. Just think about the amount of pain involved, when none of this even has to happen.
"Blow this way out of proportion" means "shatter the convenient false version of reality I built up in my head for my own comfort."
This right here ^
I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:
IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.
1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.
2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.
3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”
4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”
5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.
TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.
Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.
